Over Queen’s Birthday weekend the 2009 Merv Morrison Memorial tournament was held at the ACC clubrooms. The event was 6 rounds of standard time-control and divided into a Open and Under-1700 tournaments.

Winners in the Open were:

1st Daniel Shen

2nd Bob Smith

3rd= Bruce Wheeler and Antinio Krstev

In the Under 1700 Event:

1st= Philip Mukkattu and Leonides Guico

3rd= Bob Mitchell , Neil Cruden and Wayne Puepuemai

The Auckland Chess Centre Club Championship was played over 9 round during July, August and September.

The competition was in 3 grades. A and B grade were 10 player round robin (all-play-all) competitions while the C-Grade was a Swiss.
